Exploration Drilling in Madagascar
Location
Envirodrill was requested to provide a portable drill for grass root exploration drilling at two areas one in Central Northern Madagacar and the other in the far North of the country.
Envirodrill arranged for the airfreight of one its drills and equipment sets from Freetown, Sierra Leone to Antanarivo, Madagascar. Because of the environmental sensitivity surrounding drilling in Madagascar Envirodrill provided a plastic membrane to underly the drill area and spill kits in case of oil spills of any kind.
Drilling
Envirodrill provided a modular core drill with thin wall conventional and wireline equipment. Boreholes to a maximum depth of 210 metres were drilled using TNW and BTW barrels and core diameters of 60mm and 40mm were taken with the equipment. The drill was moved 200km, 18 hours by road, north and a second group of holes were drilled, One borehole was required to sample sub surface formations downslope and excellent core recoveries were achieved with the TNW equipment. The total project consisted of 1450 metres and the drill is currently being prepared for mobilisation to its next contract.
Camp
Because of the projects short term nature in Madagascar a tented camp was requested by the client and Envirodrill dispatched a similar set up to that provided for other clients previously. Envirodrill provided the basic camp equipment by air from the UK, this included tents, water purification, kitchen equipment and the airfreight package was augmented by local build shelters for protection from the sun. Once drilling at the first site was complete Envirodrill arranged for its movement and re pitching at second drilling location.
