Opencast Coal Exploration in Scotland
Envirodrill Ltd has recently undertaken several opencast exploration and geotechnical contracts, and is one of the foremost providers of this service to the coal industry. The company has been providing services to Scottish Coal, and U.K. Coal during the last drilling season, and during this period had up to three drills deployed. These drills included a soft track machine for very soft ground conditions, and two Dando 250 type drills. Upward of 18,000 metres of rotary air flush drilling was carried using DTH, tricone Air blast and non coring bits. As well as nearly 1000 metres of Air Flush Coring using 75mm and 93mm coreline barrels. Geotechnical work including pietzometer installations was also undertaken at various sites during the contract period. Further geotechnical works are expected to get underway in the near future.

Envirodrill's Soft ground drill has completed boreholes of up to 100 metre depth, at up to 5" diameter, both open hole and coring operations can be carried out by this drill.
